Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff wrote the tune in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear the song's early versions and was aware that it was going to be one of the Top 10 hits. After performing the song in Washington D.C. to a huge crowd, the singer made a recording a few days later.
